Geely's electric Zeekr 009 is an EV Alphard we never had; 700 km, 542 PS, top speed 190 km/h

Geely’s luxury electric brand, Zeekr, is all set to launch their second ever model. With the second model, Zeekr is going the opposite of sporty with an all-electric MPV known as the Zeekr 009.

Measuring 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,856 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, the Zeekr 009 is slightly larger than the Toyota Alphard.

Like its sibling, the Zeekr 001, the Zeekr 009 is also built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric vehicle (EV) specific platform. Word is that the MPV will also share the same 100 kWh battery pack as the sporty 001.

The 009 gets a dual-motor drive train, each motor has an output of 276 PS, the combined output is rated at 542 PS. Zeekr also claims that the 009 will have a top speed of 190 km/h. As for range, Zeekr claims that the 009 will have up to 700 km range based on the NEDC.

But the big news for the 009 is not the power or what battery pack it comes with, it is the massive grille. The 009’s virtual grille, Zeekr knows it as The Fountain of Light, is lined with 154 LED strips, so it lights up for a light show at night.

The grille in the official photos released by Geely, the 009 features a prominent silver grille, however, leaked photos from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show that the grille can be had in the body panel colour to make it less ‘in your face’.

At the back, the 009’s floating C-pillar features a shark gill-like design while the futuristic tail light is connected by a light bar across the tailgate.

Inside, the EV has a 2+2+2 seating, however, depending on the variant, customers can also opt for a 2+2 seating to make it a proper luxury carrier.

Based on official photos, the MPV will also feature two sunroofs, a smaller one directly above the front passengers while the passengers in the rear get a panoramic opening.

The Zeekr 009 will make its public debut at the upcoming 2022 Chengdu Motor Show which will start on 26-August-2022.
