Homemade drifting Perodua Kancil shows the best of muhibbah in the Malaysian car community

There is zero doubt that Malaysians are a very creative bunch who are capable of very big things. After all, the ubiquitous pen drive was created by a Malaysian anyway.

Somewhere in the veins of awesome Malaysian creations is this drifting Perodua Kancil. Don’t rub your eyes, you read that correctly - this little box can and will go up against big boys like the Cefiro A31.

Don’t believe me? Watch this:

Built by the multiracial ragtag Streetkilla crew, this kei car has got performance that betrays its fairly nondescript exterior.

The mods done are super unique too - as in they pieced whatever they had lying around in a fantastic display of backyard engineering.

Powering the Kancil is a Daihatsu L600 turbo engine, paired to a four-speed manual that once belonged to a Toyota KE70.

Yes, it sends power to the rear wheels for fun slidey moments.

I know a lot of it doesn’t seem to make sense. How to mate that small engine to that gearbox? Not only that, getting everything to work and still be rear-wheel drive?

The answer is: lots and lots of custom work.

They made their own engine mounts out of metal pipes, fabricated custom adapter plates to mate the gearbox to the engine and did, er, creative work in the interior to reposition the fuel tank.

Going inside, one will find nothing. Literally, it’s all been stripped off save for a seat, steering wheel, shifter, handbrake and pedals. Who needs Android Auto when the engine is just screaming at you without any sound insulation?

All in all, we love everything about this. It shows what Malaysians can achieve when we band together, and it’s a crazy enough project that will be remembered for years to come.

Since today's a holiday, show Streetkilla some love and catch up on their build vlogs below!

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
