We're right at the tail end of 2021, but the list of cars Malaysians have to look forward to isn't stopping short anytime soon: here's the preview of the locally-assembled (CKD Pekan, Pahang) 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and GolfTSI R-Line.
As tantalisingly close we were to the pair, let it be clear that they're yet to be launched, so prices are still yet to be announced.
Owing to local assembly, expect prices for both cars to be slightly cheaper than the last-gen, imported Mk7.5 models.
For reference, the Mk7.5 Golf 1.4 TSI was last priced at RM 174,100, while the Golf GTI retailed at RM 240,030.
Under the hood of the Mk8 Golf TSI R-Line is a 1.4-litre, turbocharged four-pot making 150 PS and 250 Nm, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
What's interesting is that even the Golf TSI R-Line gets a fully-digital instrument cluster, alongside suede-and-leather upholstery.
As for the spicier Golf GTI, that gets a 2.0-litre inline-four. Output from the turbocharged engine is 245 PS, with 370 Nm of torque, sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) transmission.
Being the sportier variant, it gets GTI badging all around the interior, oodles of red, and leather sports seats done up with three colours.
Aside from these, full specifications regarding both models will be confirmed at a later date, closer to their launch.
