Hyundai Grand Starex now with Telematics System; RM 2k upgrade for current owners

All Hyundai Grand Starex registered from 1-May are pre-installed with a Telematics System, which makes it easier for owners to book a service appointment, locate and report a stolen vehicle, and request for help in the event of an accident or breakdown.

The Telematics System comes integrated with six services – eCall: Automatic Accident Detection, Manual eCall: Emergency Assistance, bCall: Breakdown Assistance, Service Assist, Mobile App - Connected Security Features and Stolen Vehicle Tracking.

An SOS call can be made with Manual eCall by a press of the SOS button mounted on the map console of the Hyundai Grand Starex. Once the SOS button is activated, the vehicle owner will receive a call from the Secure Operating Centre (SOC) on the emergency.

Upon confirming the assistance needed, the SOC will then dispatch the required help, whether it is for an ambulance, the police or a tow truck.

If the Telematics System detects a great impact to the vehicle, a crash alert will automatically be activated via the eCall without having to press the SOS button. The SOC then contacts the vehicle owner immediately to check on the situation.

Should there be no response from the vehicle owner, an ambulance and the police will automatically be dispatched to the location based on the tracking device that comes with the Grand Starex.

A breakdown service on the other hand, can be activated using the bCall and the breakdown service will be dispatched to the location.

The Mobile App helps in locating the vehicle by activating a smart alarm with the sound of the horn and indicators. It can also report a missing vehicle, make other non-emergency reports and enquiries, record trips made by the vehicle as well as the driver’s behaviour analysis.

The Service Assist tracks the vehicle’s mileage via a satellite and then sends a ticket to an authorised Hyundai service centre which will then schedule an appointment with the vehicle owner.

The Telematics System comes pre-installed with the Hyundai Grand Starex and its service will be complimentary for the first three years. After the three-year period, vehicle owners can opt to renew for RM380 per year.

Existing Hyundai Grand Starex owners can have the Telematics System installed in their vehicles as well. Keen owners can head over to any of the authorised Hyundai service centres to get the Telematics System installed at RM1,998.

To recap, the Hyundai Grand Starex is an 11-seater MPV that features a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine that makes 170 PS/441 Nm, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.

There are two variants to the Grand Starex - Executive Plus and Executive Prime which retails at RM 163,888 and RM171,888 (OTR without insurance, with SST discount) respectively.
