Mitsubishi has taken the covers off the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at the currently-ongoing 37th Thailand International Motor Expo (TIME).
With prices starting at THB 1,640,000 (~RM 221k) for the base GT variant and topping out at THB 1,749,000 (~RM 236k) for the GT Premium variant, the Outlander PHEV is Mitsubishi's first entry into the Thai PHEV and hybrid vehicle market.
That also makes it the sole Outlander variant on sale there - phasing out the petrol version.
It's about time really, since the Thai Board of Investment reports that the country's PHEV and hybrid vehicle market has grown 51% between 2018 and 2019.
2020 has been a tumultous year for Mitsubishi Motors in Thailand as their sales slumped to 45,600 cars from January to October - a 38% year-on-year decrease from 2019, Bangkok Post reports.

The range-topping GT Premium variant gets self-levelling LED headlights, leather trim and powered tailgate, in addition to a host of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS):
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Lane keeping assist (LKA)
- Blind spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert (BSM, RCTA)
- Auto high beam (AHB)
Coming to Malaysia?
There's currently no plans for the Outlander PHEV to make its way to Malaysia. That's because our tax structure penalises imported cars, which will make this SUV uncompetitively expensive in Malaysia.
