The Proton X50 has set tongues wagging since the first spyshots emerged many moons ago, and with its rather competitive price, people have been clamouring to get their names in the order books.
Still, buying a car is more than just affording the instalments, so let's explore the maintenance costs for this new B-segment SUV.
The total cost of maintaining the car at Proton's official centres over a 5-year/100,000 km period is RM 4,326.95. This applies to both engines the car comes with (depending on variant).
The X50's 1.5-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder engines take 5 litres of engine oil, which is changed at every service interval - along with the usual engine oil filter and drain plug gasket.
Keep in mind that the engine coolant (RM 135.45) needs to be replaced at the 36-month/60,000 km mark, which is why the service is relatively pricier than others. Same goes on the 54-month/90,000 km interval - the price is bumped up because you need to change the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) fluid (RM 237.36).
The timing belt needs to be changed at the 66-month/110,000 km mark. The belt alone costs RM 195.16, and the total service cost for that interval is RM 825.27.
You might ask, why not automatic transmission fluid (ATF)? Why is the service more expensive? We've answered these questions for you in this article.
