Ever since Honda introduced the all-new GN-series Honda City in Thailand back in November 2019, it has topped the sales charts ever since.
Based on headlightmag’s sales data, the Honda City currently dominates the Thailand B-segment sedan market, with 3,200 units sold in November, marginally ahead of the Toyota Yaris Ativ (Vios to us, 2,349 units), Nissan Almera (2,089 units), Mazda 2 Sedan (1,698 units), and Toyota Vios (different from our Vios, 466 units).
Even the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has done little to dampen sales, seeing that Honda Thailand has managed to shift a total of 31,948 units as of November 2020, capturing 35.3% of the market. Archrival Toyota sold 17,295 units of the Yaris Ativ and 3,679 units of the Vios as of November 2020.
To recap, the Thai-spec Honda City features a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that does 122 PS and 173 Nm – vastly different from our new naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit (121 PS, 145 Nm).
