UMW Toyota Motor to relocate head office out of Shah Alam?

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), the sole authorized distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, will be moving out of its current head office building in Persiaran Raja Muda in Shah Alam, according to sources familiar with the matter. The relocation has been planned several years earlier so the decision is not directly related to the current poor market outlook, although the Toyota’s falling market share over the last 5 years was probably a motivating factor in right-sizing the organization.

How to survive a car crash? Don't be stupid with your seatbelts

Have you ever come across kids jumping at the backseat of a car, while you’re stopped at a red light? This is one of my biggest driving pet peeves, people not wearing seatbelts whilst travelling in their cars. We have seen countless times, crashes on the road that have resulted in people getting flung out of their cars. Why? Plain and simple, they weren’t wearing their seatbelts. How can something so intrinsically simple to do become such a widely-ignored habit? Sadly, it’s down to both ignoranc

Malaysians pay over RM 10 billion in car taxes every year. How did we end up like this?

Malaysia is known for having one of the world’s highest taxes on cars. Sales of new cars and spare parts for motor vehicles are the single largest contributor in import and excise duties collection, eclipsing tobacco and alcohol products. How much taxes do car sales contribute to the Malaysian government? The government doesn’t provide a breakdown of its tax collection by industry, but it is safe to estimate that the automotive sector contributes well over RM 10 billion in taxes every year. So i

Toyota files patent for 'crab-like' handling. What's that?

In a world obsessed with race car ride and handling, Toyota is looking at another direction: cyberpunk-inspired, all-terrain handling. The car was co-invented by a woman, Bertha Benz but patent laws wouldn't recognize her work

History recognized Carl Benz as the inventor of the modern car but we won't have the modern car if not for a woman, who in today's world, would've been recognized as a co-inventor, rather than merely the wife of the inventor. The only reason Carl Benz was solely credited for the invention of the car was simply because German patent laws at that time didn’t allow women to register any patents.
