Hyundai is on a roll lately, making some nice cars - look at how the newly-launched in Malaysia 2021 Hyundai Elantra makes segment rivals' designs feel archaic. In Indonesia, they've just added a new model to their line-up: the 2021 Hyundai Palisade, now open for booking ahead of its January launch there.
Scheduled to be officially launched in Indonesia in January 2021, the 7-seat SUV is available in three variants. The variants and prices start are as below:
Signature: IDR 888 mil (~ RM 254k) for the Signature
Signature AWD: IDR 1.08 bil (~ RM 309k)
These prices make the Palisade the most expensive Korean vehicle to be sold in Indonesia, even pricier than the outgoing Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 AMG Line that goes for IDR 775 mil (~RM 220k) there. But does its kit justify the prices?
2021 Hyundai Palisade features
All variants - regardless FWD or AWD - of the Indonesian-spec Palisade will be powered as such:
2021 Hyundai Palisade Powertrain
Engine
Transmission
2.2-litre turbocharged diesel
200 PS @ 3,800 rpm
441 Nm @ 1,750 - 2,750 rpm
8-speed automatic
Meanwhile, the Palisade comes with LED head and tail lamps, 18- and 20-inch wheels for the Prime and Signature variants respectively and powered tailgate with adjustable opening/closing speed and lift heights.
Going beneath the blocky exterior, the Palisade seats up to 7 people with a 2-3-2 layout.
It's got features to fit its flagship status too, such as dual sunroofs, up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support) and a 3.5-inch multi-info display nestled between analogue instrument cluster.
Meanwhile, there's double-glazed windows all-around (good for quiet drives), 360-degree camera and other small practical touches like several USB ports.
Safety wise, the Indonesian-spec Palisade has 6 airbags, but there's no word about ADAS. And it's rather thoughtful for Hyundai to put in a rear passenger alert system that issues a reminder if anyone accidentally leaves a child or pet behind after parking. Says a lot about the world, doesn't it?
So what do you think? Good enough to show the 'Proton X90' who's boss if it comes here?
