First launched in 2015, the Mazda CX-3 is no stranger to Malaysian roads, having been around for nearly a decade. However, despite its age, the CX-3 remains appealing even today for discerning buyers who appreciate its style, driving performance and build quality.

Of course, it is one of the more expensive options in the hotly contested and crowded B-Segment SUV category – mostly due to it being fully imported (CBU) - first from Japan, then Thailand since circa mid-2022.

Overview

The Mazda CX-3 was first launched in 2015. Priced at RM 132k – it featured the tried and tested 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre petrol engine which developed 156 PS and 204 Nm, sending power to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In 2018, the CX-3 facelift was launched. With powertrains unchanged, the refreshed model notably introduces styling updates – LED automatic headlamps, a new grille design, additional chrome bits, new foglamp garnishing, updated taillights and new 18-inch wheels.

On the inside, changes included an electronic parking brake (EPB), an Auto Hold feature, a colour heads-up display (HUD), a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and notably, armrests for both front and rear passengers. The 2018 CX-3 also received thicker door panels and additional sound insulation material for better refinement.

The CX-3 facelift also retained the G-Vectoring Control (GVC) feature – introduced a year before – and added Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to its list of ADAS assistance features. The 2018 CX-3 was priced at RM 122k, OTR without insurance.

Why buy a used Mazda CX-3?

Well, mostly for the same reasons you would buy a new Mazda CX-3 today, it is a superb-looking and well-packaged SUV that despite its age, still offers great value and contemporary features that are on par with newer rivals. Add to this its solid build quality and finish that shows when you experience the car.

In addition at approximately RM 90k for a 4- to 5-year-old car CX-3 has undergone a large portion of its depreciation, whilst still relatively new. Mileages of advertised units are also relatively low with the highest readings at approximately 95k km, most of which are around 65k km.

Also, given it’s a Mazda which comes with a 5-year warranty and maintenance inclusive (when new), hence, you can be sure almost all CX-3 units would have received proper maintenance directly from Bermaz, as well as a service history that is easily traceable to ensure you’re getting a good used vehicle.

If you’re looking for your first SUV or a second car that can handle the needs of a small family, the Mazda CX-3 is a great choice for the discerning buyer, even more so if you enjoy driving.
