GWM Malaysia has confirmed that the Ora 07 - a coupe-esque sedan that looks like a cut-priced Chinese Porsche Panamera – will be launched within this quarter.
“We are thrilled to bring the Ora 07 to Malaysia, reinforcing our commitment to providing our customers with top-notch, eco-friendly transportation options,” said Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia.
“The Malaysian market holds tremendous potential, and we believe Ora 07 will attract customers seeking uniqueness,” he added.
Two variants have been confirmed, similar to Thailand. The single motor front-wheel drive variant has a claimed driving range of 640 km, while the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant can do 550 km on a single charge. The figures are little bit different from the 600 km / 495 km quoted by GWM Thailand, but that’s probably because Thailand’s numbers are based on the stricter WLTP test cycle.
The Thailand market Ora 07 uses an 83.5-kWh ternary lithium battery for both the Long Range and Performance variants. The former is driven by a front-mounted 204 PS / 340 Nm motor, while the latter’s dual-motor setup makes 408 PS / 680 Nm.
Like the Ora Good Cat, the Ora 07 will be imported from China. It will be GWM Malaysia's second model here after the Ora Good Cat, which is priced from RM 140,500 to RM 170,500.
GWM Malaysia has announced plans to locally assemble (CKD) some of its models at contract manufacturer EP Manufacturing Berhad’s (EPMB) Melaka plant. However, electric models are not included as the deal with EPMB is only for the Haval Jolion and Haval H6.
In Thailand, the China-built Ora 07 is priced from THB 1,299,000 to THB 1,499,000 (~RM 173k to RM 199k), putting it in competition with the BYD Seal, which ranges from THB 1,325,000 to THB 1,599,000 (~RM 176k to RM 213k).
In Malaysia, Sime Darby Beyond Auto will be launching the BYD Seal in February. Pre-bookings are now opened.
