The Volkswagen Polo Mk6 has been around since 2017 and is ripe for a much-needed facelift. Not that this is a dramatic one as the overall design is just a slight tweak from the still-not-available-in-Malaysia pre-facelift.

With this mid-life refresh, the designers at Wolfsburg have clearly been inspired by the Mk8 Golf’s design and as such, the B-segment hatchback closely resembles its bigger brother even more.

For the first time in the Volkswagen Polo, LED headlights and taillights now come as standard across the range. The front lights are connected by an illuminated strip that stretches across the base of the radiator grille.

What’s even more interesting is the adaptive Matrix LED technology which is available on certain variants of the Polo facelift, including the sporty R-Line variant shown here in blue. However, those adaptive headlights aren’t the only advanced safety features gained in the hatchback.

Volkswagen is also bundling an ADAS suite in the facelifted Polo Mk6, collectively called the IQ.Drive Travel Assist. These include adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

Speaking of the inside, the facelifted baby Golf certainly gives a bit of an upmarket vibe with touch-sensitive air-con controls and a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display. There is even a wireless charger, which is very handy indeed.

Also available as standard across the updated Polo range is the Active Info Display digital meter panel, though the sizes vary from 8.0 to 10.25 inches.

Now, we come to the powerplants and Volkswagen has only announced the 1.0-litre engines, of which there are three petrol engines (Power output range from 80 PS to 110 PS) and a compressed natural gas (CNG) powered option (90 PS). The engines are paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Absent here is the diesel-powered TDI option which in today’s eco-conscious society might be a no-no.

While all that might sound tantalising the Polo Mk6’s arrival in Malaysia is still pretty much uncertain. Will we get the facelift instead or will the sixth-gen Polo skip Malaysia entirely?
