No plans for 11-seater, Hyundai Staria will be 7-seater only in Malaysia, Starex to remain

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has just announced that there will be no plans for an 11-seater version of their latest Hyundai Staria MPV.

The Staria will be offered exclusively as a 7-seater MPV in Malaysia, and it will be sold alongside the Hyundai Grand Starex. The latter will be HSDM’s sole 11-seater MPV for the Malaysian market.

To recap, the Staria was officially launched in Malaysia in late October 2021. Available in a sole Premium 7-seater variant, fully imported from Korea priced at RM358,888 (OTR without insurance & 50% SST waiver, valid until 30 June 2022).

It’s powered by a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission packing 177 PS and 431 Nm of torque.

Hyundai claims a 12.4 second century sprint time and a top speed of 185 km/h.

On-board features available in the Staria Premium include Nappa leather seats, front and rear heated & ventilated seats, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, 12-speaker Bose sound system, powered tailgate, sunroof and more.

In comparison, the Grand Starex (priced from RM165k) is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment includes halogen projector headlamps, touchscreen infotainment, reverse camera, and cruise control.
