Samsung SDI, the battery manufacturing arm of Samsung, might soon upgrade its plant in Seremban to produce 4680-type batteries for Tesla, claims Korean publication TheElec.
Samsung has yet to make any official announcement on the matter but according to the Korean publication, Samsung SDI is preparing pilot production of 4680-type cylindrical batteries at the companyโs Cheonan plant in Korea.
It also said that once the pilot trial and the necessary technology verification is complete, mass production will commence in Malaysia, at the companyโs plant in Seremban.

4680-type batteries refer to a new generation of cylindrical shaped batteries that are 46 mm in diameter and 80 mm tall. These batteries are popularized by Tesla.
Tesla say these 4680 batteries are cheaper to produce and offer higher energy density.
