Fans of Kia can expect a new compact 7-seater MPV from the Korean carmaker this year - the Kia KY - according to a leaked document.
Sighted by Indian media, the leaked presentation file shows Kia's plans for 2021. While specification details are still shrouded, the KY is said to be a compact 7-seater MPV - think therabouts the size of the Perodua Alza.
Meanwhile, it's been rumoured that the KY will be based on the upcoming Hyundai Staria MPV that's reportedly going to be produced in Hyundai's Indonesian plant. Indonesian media have also placed the KY to be a possible competitor to the Suzuki Ertiga.
Also, it's been said that the KY could be driven by the Seltos' powertrain. The Malaysian-spec Seltos is powered by a 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that does 123 PS at 6,300 rpm and 151 Nm at 4,850 rpm, mated to 6-speed automatic transmission.
Kia has set an annual sales target of 76,000 units for the new model, of which 26,000 of those will be exported to developing markets such as the ASEAN region. The remaining 50,000 are planned for Indian customers.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, Kia's fate hangs in the balance, with their latest product - the Kia Seltos - still not reaching customers nearly a year since it was first previewed here.
