The GWM Tank 300 made its debut back in late-2020, powered by a regular turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic.
Fast forward to today and GWM’s Thailand arm has announced that they will be debuting the hybrid electric (HEV) version of the GWM Tank 300 at next week’s Bangkok International Motor Show (2022 BIMS).
As the name suggests, the GWM Tank 300 HEV will be powered by a petrol-electric HEV system, combining a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, allowing for a combined system output of 245 PS and 380 Nm. A 9-speed automatic transmission is the sole option.
With the HEV system in place, GWM said that the Tank 300 HEV can complete the century sprint in just 7.9 seconds.
Although GWM previewed the Tank 300 HEV during last year’s Shanghai Auto Show, the model has yet to go on sale in its home market. Eight variants of the regular Tank 300 are currently on sale in China, with prices ranging from CNY 195,800 (~RM 129k) to CNY 308,000 (~RM 203k).
No word on whether the GWM Tank 300 HEV that will debut in Thailand will be a left-hand drive or right-hand drive unit. Watch this space for more updates.
