Following the 19-May suspension of sales of hybrid variants of the Daihatsu Rocky and Toyota Raize in Japan due to falsification of UN R135 pole side-impact data, Toyota has announced that the Raize has passed an internal in-house test conducted by Daihatsu.

However, sales and deliveries of the Raize Hybrid and its Daihatsu twin remain suspended in Japan as this is only an in-house test. The next step would be to repeat the test in the presence of certification authorities.

Note that the suspension only applies to 1.2-litre series-hybrid variants of the Rocky and Raize. The regular 1.0-litre turbocharged models, the ones our local Perodua Ativa is based on, are proceeding as normal in Japan.

The UN R135 is a pole side-impact test standard established by the United Nations.

Unlike voluntary NCAP tests, there is no score attached to UN tests, only a pass or a fail.

The test was conducted by Daihatsu at their Shiga Technical Center, on 24-May.

On 19-May, Daihatsu admitted that it had not done the full UN R135 test, which required the test to be done on both driver’s and passenger’s side. Daihatsu had submitted data from the passenger-side as test result from the driver’s side.
