Elon Musk says production Tesla Roadster to be unveiled this year; sub-1 second 0-96 km/h acceleration is 'the least interesting part' 01

In 2017, Tesla unveiled its second-generation Roadster, yet as of 29-February 2024, the electric sports car remains elusive. However, Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, suggests that the wait is ending. Musk recently discussed the long-awaited performance EV on his social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter).

"Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car," Musk said. He claimed that the Roadster could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than one second, adding β€œand that is the least interesting part.”

In a later exchange within the thread, the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account inquires, "Can it fly a little?" Musk's reply is a simple eye emoji, leaving the question open to interpretation.

Tesla's top management has affirmed that the design has been finalised, and they anticipate revealing the production model towards the end of the year. The company aims to commence customer deliveries in 2025, although timelines in the world of Tesla are often subject to change.

Given the significant passage of time since the Roadster concept's debut, it's pertinent to revisit the technical specifications initially promised by Tesla.

The original projections indicated impressive performance metrics, including a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 1.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 8.8 seconds. Tesla also claimed that the Roadster would surpass 250 mph (402 km/h) and offer a range of 620 miles (997 km) on a single charge.
