This is the BYD Seagull, the company's smallest EV yet, positioned below the BYD Dolphin. Having recently examined the BYD Seagull in China, we now present you with live photos of the compact electric vehicle (EV).
In China, the BYD Seagull is priced from CNY 73,800 to CNY 89,800 (around RM 47k to RM 57k). It is powered by a 75 PS/135 Nm electric motor, paired to either a 30.8 kWh or a 38.8 kWh Blade battery which gives a CLTC-rated range of 305 km and 405 km respectively.

The BYD Seagull, which is part of BYD's Ocean series, is constructed on the e-platform 3.0 and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height.
For reference, the 2023 Perodua Axia measures 3,760 mm in length, 1,665 mm in with width, and 1,505 mm in height.
Inside, there's an 11.1-inch touchscreen display that can be rotated like in the BYD Atto 3, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad.
The BYD Seagullโs onboard charger is rated at 6.6 kW for AC charging and accepts up to 30 kW or 40 kW DC fast charging, depending on variant.
Like other BYD EV models, the BYD Seagull uses the companyโs Blade battery made up of lithium iron phosphate (LFP).

BYDโs Blade battery uses LFP chemistry that is theoretically safer, costs less, and have a longer cycle life. Its downside is the lower energy density compared to ternary lithium batteries.
However, the Blade battery design mitigates the disadvantage with its clever form factor, allowing a higher energy density at the pack level.

Closer to home, the larger BYD Dolphin was spotted in Malaysia earlier this month. BYD SD Motors Malaysia, the distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has previously revealed its plans to introduce the BYD Dolphin in the Malaysian market during the fourth quarter of 2023.
