The Proton X50 is definitely one of the most exciting cars of 2020. At least in Malaysia. The variants have been revealed, the tech features look exciting, the performance has been impressive, and yet the prices are yet to be announced.
Still, that doesn’t faze people from booking the X50 but don’t be deceived by the unofficial price figures. This just shows how hyped the little brother to the X70 really is. The X50 is locally-assembled at Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant and Proton has released a short video showing how it’s made.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });
The video was uploaded on Proton’s official Facebook page which shows a small glimpse of the X50’s assembly. From the looks of things, the assembly plant looks state-of-the-art with some parts of the plant being fully automated.
The Tanjung Malim plant had been given a RM 1.2 billion extension back in 2019 to make way for the local assembly of the X70 and the X50. All that monetary injection seems to pull off by how modern the factory looks now.
The X50 is projected to contribute RM 1.8 billion annually to local automotive vendors in an effort to strengthen Proton’s position in the local automotive industry.
Proton aims to sell 4,000 units of the X50 in this year alone. Prices have yet to be confirmed but it is expected to range between RM 80,000 to slightly above RM 100,000.
