Ahead of its slated launch in Malaysia, Peugeot Australia has begun taking orders for the all-new Peugeot 408, soon to join Vietnam and Thailand in selling the mould-breaking coupe-suv in the larger Asia and Oceania region.
The Peugeot 408 GT is slated for launch in Q3 2024, with an estimated price of AUD 67,990 (~RM 212,000) for the sole Peugeot 408 GT plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant.

As listed on the Peugeot Australia website, the 408 GT features a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which develops 179 PS and 250 Nm, aided by an electric motor that produces another 110 PS and 320 Nm. Combined power is rated at 225 PS and 360 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Featuring a 12.4 kWh battery, the 408 GT is claimed to offer a maximum electric range of 60 km (according to the WLTP standard), however, charging is limited to just 3.7 kWh. This requires 6 hours to fully recharge the battery via a (10 Amp) 2.3 kWh home socket, or around 3.5 hours via 7.4 kWh wallbox charger. Fuel consumption is listed at a claimed 1.3 litres/100 km.

Standard safety equipment includes the Peugeot New Drive Assist 2.0 ADAS safety suite which includes AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Active Lane Following Assist, ACC with Stop & Go, RCTA and long-range Blind Spot Detection (BSD) among others.
Elsewhere notable features include a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless AA and AC compatibility, customisable virtual iToggle controls, 3D Satellite Navigation, 8-colour interior ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof. The 408 GT also rides on massive 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Closer to home, the Peugeot 408 has been long rumoured for launch in Malaysia. As announced earlier, the Peugeot Malaysia range will comprise of updated range of both locally assembled (CKD) and fully-imported (CBU) cars, citing models beyond the Peugeot 2008 (RM 134k), 3008 (RM 169k), 5008 (RM 185k) and Landtrek pick-up (RM 119k) currently offered.
Furthermore, with the recent announcement that Stellantis (the Group that owns Peugeot) will set up a regional office in Malaysia, it is understood that the Malaysian operations (based in PJ) will take on additional roles to cover the wider Stellantis group.

The PSA Group currently owns a vehicle assembly plant in Gurun, Kedah, which makes the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008, both are also exported to Thailand.
