We have already completed a comprehensive review of the BYD Atto 3 and we're excited to share that we're impressed with this vehicle. However, most of our tests were conducted within the city limits, which we believe is the most common use case for this electric car.

Fortunately, we recently had the opportunity to take the BYD Atto 3 on a long-distance drive from Petaling Jaya to Tanjung Malim and back. During this trip, we primarily drove on B-roads, covering a distance of approximately 240 kilometers over a variety of road surfaces. We encountered everything from twisty and patchy roads to tight and smooth roads.

Our experience driving the BYD Atto 3 on these B-roads was nothing short of impressive. Despite the varied road conditions, the car handled exceptionally well, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. The electric motor delivered ample power and the battery life was more than sufficient for the entire journey.

When it comes to driving, cars that perform well in the city may not necessarily fare as well on the open road. One of the most common pitfalls of long-distance driving is comfort issues, such as uncomfortable seats that can lead to a sore back or cramped muscles.

Another critical factor to consider is the quality of the drive. Trunk roads offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenery, and winding roads allow drivers to engage with their vehicles in ways that they wouldn't typically experience during their everyday drives.

The BYD Atto 3 rises to the challenge of long-distance driving, delivering exceptional comfort and handling on trunk roads. Although the car's seats may not look stylish, they provide excellent support and cushioning through the curves, resulting in a comfortable ride for both the driver and passengers.

The spacious interior is one of the Atto 3's standout features, particularly when compared to other electric vehicles in its price range. Rear passengers enjoy plenty of legroom, and there's enough space to stretch out and relax during long journeys. Furthermore, the car's lack of a style-first, feature-second sloping roof means that there's ample headroom, even for taller passengers.

However, it's worth noting that the car's interior design can be a little challenging, especially when driving on challenging roads. The air-conditioning controls are tucked away within a rotating screen, which can be distracting when you need to adjust the temperature while driving.

The BYD Atto 3 proved to be an exceptional city car during our test drive. However, we were eager to take on a new challenge by driving it on B-roads to Tanjung Malim and back from Petaling Jaya. Despite concerns that the Atto 3's performance might falter outside the city, it surpassed our expectations, making it an excellent option for a fun and comfortable road trip.

Although some cars may have comfort issues when driving outside the city, the Atto 3 provides good support and cushioning, making it comfortable for both the driver and passengers. Additionally, the Atto 3 has excellent legroom, which is rare for EVs, and there is enough headroom because of its feature-first design.

When driving on the B-roads, we found the Atto 3's power delivery and instant torque made it an enjoyable experience, despite the car's less communicative nature. With 204 PS/310 Nm electric power, the Atto 3 has enough acceleration for a bit of fun on twisty roads. The Atto 3's suspension is one of the better ones in its price range, making it able to glide through badly patched roads without any drama. Additionally, the tight roads didn't feel like a challenge, thanks in part to the 360-degree camera that helped with navigation.

Another positive aspect of the Atto 3 is its braking and nimbleness. The strong brakes are handy when navigating blind corners, and the car's ability to handle tight roads was impressive. Another exciting feature of the Atto 3 is the vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, which allows you to plug in appliances, such as a coffee machine, and make anywhere your camping spot.

However, charging points remain a concern, so be sure to plan your journey accordingly. Although we did not experience any charging issues during our test, it is important to note that charging points may be limited in certain areas. With some degree of punching it on the highways and V2L usage, we still had 43% charge left once we returned to Ara Damansara.

After our recent long-distance test drive, we can confidently say that the BYD Atto 3 is an impressive electric vehicle that sets a high bar for its competitors. Despite its slightly impractical interior design, the Atto 3 is a well-crafted and thoughtful product that delivers on its promises.

On the road, the Atto 3 provides a smooth and comfortable ride, with supportive seats and a suspension system that handles rough roads with ease. The instant torque and 204 PS/310 Nm of electric power make for a fun and engaging driving experience, even on twisty B-roads.

One of the standout features of the Atto 3 is its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, which allows you to plug in and power up devices like a coffee maker while on the go. And with ample legroom and headroom, the Atto 3 is a spacious and comfortable EV that can accommodate passengers of all sizes.

Of course, the one major drawback of the Atto 3 is the limited availability of charging infrastructure, which can make long trips outside of urban areas a challenge. But with its impressive range and reliable performance, the Atto 3 is an excellent option for anyone looking for a versatile and capable electric vehicle.

Overall, we highly recommend the BYD Atto 3 as a top-of-the-line electric vehicle that sets the standard for the industry. While there are certainly some minor quirks to be aware of, the Atto 3 is a well-crafted and reliable choice that is sure to impress even the most discerning EV enthusiasts.
