BMW SUV customers in Indonesia have racier options to look forward to as BMW Group Indonesia officially unveiled the 2020 X3 M Competition and the 2020 X4 M Competition via a virtual event.
These are the most powerful variants of the X3 and X4 SUVs. Apart from platform and general look, that’s about all that’s similar with their regular counterparts.
On the outside, they're already much sportier than the standard variants thanks to lots of M goodies. Both cars have their iconic kidney grilles finished in gloss back with M badges, gloss black side mirror covers and new diffusers round the back.
In an era of fake vents, it’s cool to note that all vents are functional - save for those on the sides.
Adding to the pizzaz are new 21-inch, style 765 M wheels and BMW M muffler.
The muffler is necessary as both cars come with BMW’s latest S58 inline-six engine. The turbocharged 3.0-litre punches out 510 PS and 600 Nm through the 8-speed Steptronic transmission powering all four wheels.
The result is a century sprint time of just 4.1 seconds.
Of course power is best substantiated with control and these two cars get tweaks there too - increased chassis stiffness (including a carbon fibre strut brace), adaptive M suspension and big M compound brakes are standard fitment.
It’s not all go and no practicality either. Inside, there’s new semi-bucket seats but 40:20:40 rear folding seats remain. Creature comforts and safety features like ISOFIX fittings, Lane Departure Warning, ABS, stability control and cruise control are all present.
Coming in exclusive colours (Donington Gray for the X3 M Competition and Toronto Red for the X4 M Compeition), they don’t come cheap. BMW asks IDR 2.2 billion for the hot X3 and IDR 2.3 billion for the spicy X4.
There’s only 10 units of the X3 and 2 of the X4. So it’s fast, expensive, and rare. Did you expect any lesser for a car you could race on Sunday, and send your kids to school on Monday?
