Why did Suzuki, Jeep and these 8 brands say "Bye bye Malaysia"?

Looking at our WapCar car list, we have 35 car brands in Malaysia. Other sites might have posted more but even so, that’s quite a lot. Yet, there are some complaints that we have so few brands being represented here. To be honest, the Malaysian automotive market is pretty small in comparison to some of our neighbours. There’s also the fact that it might be difficult to convince Malaysian buyers to buy something different from the norm. It doesn’t matter if the brand has a cool car in its line-up

Why do concept cars look so much better than normal cars?

As young car enthusiasts, we have all been excited by concept cars and their extreme aesthetics. The excitement usually comes to an abrupt end when you see the production version of the car – sporting smaller wheels, and looking like it gained a couple of pounds. As you mature, you make sense of the decisions to make production cars the way they are. Thicker tyres offer better ride comfort and a less sexy roofline actually makes for better ergonomics. A recurring theme you might notice in concep

German cars are better? Korean cars are bad? Here are top-5 myths on German vs Japanese/Korean cars.

Despite what classical economomic theories say, consumers are not the logical, rational, always calculating beings that the likes of Adam Smith say we are. We all have our own biases and prejudices and there is often very little logic behind our purchase decisions. It's exactly why the advertising industry is so big. Korean cars are bad. German cars are better than Japanese ones. CKD cars have lower quality. How many of these stereotypes/myths are true? 1. German cars are safer than Japanese/Kor

Here are 5 cars that sound better than modern F1 cars

To a lot of people, engine noises are just… noise. But car enthusiasts are an odd bunch. We derive pleasure from listening to the orchestra made up of pistons (or triangular rotors). So we've narrowed down our top-5 best sounding cars of all time, all of which sound even better than current Formula One cars. Lexus LFA You can’t talk about best sounding cars without mentioning the Lexus LFA. The naturally aspirated 4.8-litre V10 engine makes 560 PS/480 Nm and sings all the way to 9,000 rpm. Yamah

The world doesn’t need manual cars anymore

Stalling engines, nerve-wracking hill starts, and jerky gear shifts are some of the memories you might have of obtaining your driver’s license. If you had taken your driver’s license prior to 2014, you had to do it with a manual transmission car. It most likely didn’t have power steering too. You didn’t have a choice. Today, a Malaysian driver’s license can be obtained either with a manual or an automatic car. While driving enthusiasts stand by the mantra that driving a manual makes you a better

SUVs aren't killing sports cars, enthusiasts are

There has been a very prominent narrative in the past decade in the automotive industry. You can find calls to stop buying SUVs as it's killing the sports car genre. Well, I'm here to tell you that, SUVs are bad news for some types of cars, namely the traditional 3 box sedan, and wagons. The evolution of Perodua “kosong” spec cars

Cars are expensive. We usually take 5, 7, or even 9 years just to pay them off. Some of us may take the Dave Ramsey route of avoiding loans, but that’s not a popular thing to do. With the tight-budgeted consumer in mind, auto manufacturers have provided us with base spec or “kosong” spec cars. As basic as they are, they serve the purpose of taking you from one place to another. A “kosong” spec car may have been your first car, the company car, or the car you learned to drive in. These cars remin

Mythbusters: Rear-wheel drive cars don't understeer

Rear-wheel drive (RWD) motoring brings with it an untold amount of joy. They’re inherently well balanced, steering feel doesn’t get corrupted, and best of all, you can oversteer to your heart’s content. You hear driving ‘purists’ rave on and on about the benefits and satisfaction a rear-wheel drive car can give you. However, I have had such ‘purists’ tell me before, the reason why they like RWD cars is because “they don’t understeer.” Now, this is patently untrue. Cars of any drivetrain layout c

Are AWD cars completely useless for everyday driving?

The Audi Sport Quattro and Subaru WRX STI have cemented their names in the hall of fame of all-wheel-drive cars. AWD is good for performance and the fastest supercars of today mainly use AWD drivetrains. Today, just about any manufacturer has their own AWD system. And while they may differ in names, they basically send power to all four wheels. Some AWD systems are more superior than others, but that is a subject matter for another day. Despite the interesting technology behind AWD cars, most of

Increasingly powerful cars + overconfident drivers, recipe for disaster?

Recently, we've seen a spate of crashes/accidents involving high-performance cars. Most of these mishaps seem due to misplaced confidence. It's one thing to lose control unknowingly, it's another to turn off stability controls on a public road. This isn't uncommon. There are even YouTube channels dedicated to documenting crashes involving high-powered cars. Let's take a moment to explore why these crashes happen so frequently. Is it a driver problem? Or have cars just become so powerful, the ave

Buying used cars: 6 signs of flood damage

Unless you drive a pickup truck or an amphibious car, you’re pretty much screwed in the event of a flood. Water can enter the cabin, the engine bay, and the trunk. The damage can be substantial too. Even after you get it fixed up, there still might be some slight odour, hidden rust spots, and the car isn't as fun as it used to be anymore. With that in mind, it is best to avoid a flood-damaged car if you’re shopping for a used car. Some sellers may be honest about the history of the car, while so

Is synthetic engine oil bad for older cars?

Besides the viscosity rating of engine oil, we also have the choice of what type of oil we’d like to use in our car – mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil, and fully-synthetic oil. While most of us would agree that fully synthetic engine oils are the better choice, some older cars show problems when fully-synthetic engine oil is used. We’ve talked about their differences before, and the main advantages of fully-synthetic oil would be the more consistent molecule size and the longer service interval.

We’ve seen a Nissan GTR police car, a Lamborghini Police car, and even a Porsche 911 Police car elsewhere in the world. They are the kind of cars that make little kids want to become police officers.
