The Kia Cerato is an appealing alternative to the typical C-segment sedans offered by Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. Its biggest appeal currently? The higher depreciation rate compared to Japanese counterparts.

The Kia Cerato, also known as the K3 or Forte in different markets, succeeded the relatively successful Kia Forte TD with its second-generation Cerato YD, launched in Malaysia in 2013.
Both variants of the Cerato came standard with a healthy amount of safety kit, including 6 airbags, VSC, traction control, ABS, and Brake Assist. Convenience features included keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, passive cruise control, powered driver's seat adjustment, and front and rear parking sensors.

Under the bonnet, the Cerato 1.6 is powered by a 1.6-litre Gamma MPI engine producing 130 PS and 157 Nm of torque, while the upper-rung variant gets a 2.0-litre Nu MPI engine with 161 PS and 194 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Cerato 2.0 also offers additional features such as HID headlamps, a sunroof, a supervision instrument cluster, a ventilated driver's seat, and a rear spoiler.

The facelifted Cerato, launched in 2016, featured subtle styling updates like a sleeker front grille and headlights, revised rear taillights, an updated instrument cluster display, and some trim changes. The range-topping 2.0 model received heated and cooled seats for both front seats but lost auto-levelling headlamps.
So, why should you consider a used Kia Cerato?

As mentioned earlier, it’s a compelling alternative to mainstream options like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, and Mazda 3, offering excellent value for money. With safety features, attractive design, and refined interiors, the Cerato YD is a great choice. It also improves on build quality over its predecessor, the Forte.
Despite some common issues, the Cerato YD is reliable, with engines and transmissions performing well even past the 150,000 km mark with proper care and maintenance.

Korean cars often suffer from a reputation for being problematic and costly to maintain, which is largely due to misinformation rather than actual issues.
