Tan Chong Motor begins export of Malaysia-assembled Nissan Serena S-Hybrid to Thailand 01

Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH) has commenced exports of the Malaysia-assembled Nissan Serena S-Hybrid to Thailand. This marks the first instance of locally assembled Nissan vehicles being shipped to Thailand from TCMH’s Serendah facility in Selangor.

The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid exported to Thailand is similar to the model sold in Malaysia, featuring a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid 4-cylinder engine paired with a CVT transmission. Safety features include forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert, consistent with Nissan Intelligent Mobility’s suite of driving aids.

The export initiative leverages the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), enabling tax-free trade between member countries. According to TCMH, the Serena S-Hybrid incorporates 40% local content, aligning with Malaysia's National Automotive Policy goals to enhance local manufacturing and export capabilities.

Shipments are expected to begin in December 2024, coinciding with Malaysia's preparations to assume the ASEAN Chair in 2025.

TCMH plans to expand its regional export offerings by 2026 with additional models. The Serendah facility, operational since 2007 and certified under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, is set to remain a key production hub for these efforts.

The facility has recently implemented a Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) system, aimed at improving energy efficiency and sustainability.

The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
