Civic-sized Aion ES BEV sedan launched in Malaysia - From RM 106k, 136 PS/225 Nm, 442 km range

At the ongoing 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd and the sole distributor of GAC Aion battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Malaysia, launched the Aion ES all-electric sedan.

Fully imported (CBU) from China, the Aion ES is available in one variant, priced from RM 106,800. This makes it the cheapest electric sedan available in the market and an alternative to the Proton S70 and MG 5.

Just like its aforementioned rivals, the Aion ES offers C-segment-like dimensions and space. It boasts a large trunk with a boot volume of up to 450 litres which might seem like a probable candidate to ferry passengers to and from the airport.

Built on the latest dedicated Aion Electric Platform (AEP) 2.0, the Aion ES is powered by a front-mounted electric motor (136 PS/225 Nm). Juiced up by GAC’s 55.2-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Magazine Battery 2.0, it can deliver up to 442 km of range (NEDC).

It supports both 6.6 kW AC (Type 2) and up to 60 kW DC fast-charging (CCS2) inputs. Charging from 30% to 80% via the latter takes up to 30 minutes while the ES is also offered with V2L of up to 3.3 kW.

The Aion ES comes standard with automatic LED headlights and taillights, automatic wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, a full-size spare tyre, front and rear disc brakes, three driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), and the i-Pedal single-pedal driving function.

Inside, the electric sedan is offered with an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, a 3.5-inch LCD instrument cluster, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control with built-in PM2.5 air filter, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay function.

Standard safety features include front airbags, ABS, ESP, and EBD. The Aion ES does not come with ADAS.

Three colours are available which are Glamour Black, Holographic Silver, and Pure White.

The Aion ES is covered by an 8-year/160,000-km base vehicle warranty and an 8-year/200,000-km BEV battery, drive motor, and electric control warranty. In conjunction with its official launch, buyers will receive a complementary 7-kW home wallbox charger worth RM 3,500.
