It's a rousing start to the weekend for our Asian compatriots – Indonesia's Andika Rama and Malaysia's Taj Aiman – at the 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup Global Finals as they've qualified first and fifth place respectively ahead of the final races happening in Amsterdam later today.
Using the stipulated, performance-balanced Toyota Super Formula cars at a virtual Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Rama's flying lap of 1:01:809 was enough to send him to pole position. Locking out the front row in second place is Australian Joshua Struik with 1:02:009.

Malaysia's Taj Aiman – his first time in the TGR GT Cup Global Finals – fought hard and had to battle technical issues with his simulator rig, yet did well enough to qualify in fifth place with a time of 1:02:302.
"The wheel was moving in place, even during practice. It was weird; I initally thought it was a feature. It felt the same way in qualifying, and after that the technical team had to tighten it. Anyway, I am impressed with my results for Malaysia," said Aiman.
TGR GT Cup Finals - when, and where to watch
Now that the qualifying is done and dusted, all eyes are on Team Asia as they battle it out with 22 other hopefuls from around the globe for the championship.
The races will be streamed live on Gran Turismo's YouTube channel, starting from Saturday, 7-December 2024, 11 pm Malaysian time.
