“How is the 2021 Perodua Ativa fuel consumption” is a question we get very often since we collected our very own Ativa in March 2021.
While we have published the Ativa’s fuel consumption on our WapCar Ratings, test results are more reliable with more data collected.
Hence after 6 months, 9,075 km and 29 refuels later, here is the fuel consumption of the Perodua Ativa as tested in the real world. But before we get on with the numbers, here are some ground rules:
Car is filled with RON95 only, regardless of station brand
Each full tank is until 1-click jump at the pump
Tyre pressure is checked once a month (34 PSI all corners)
Trip computer average fuel consumption reading is reset after every refuel
Auto start-stop is activated
Climate control is set according to passenger comfort
The total fuel used was 712.871 litres and the total distance travelled was 9,075 km.
This works out to a real-world fuel consumption of 7.68 L/100 km or 13.49 km (rounded to nearest 2 decimal). As a comparison, our WapCar Ratings result was 7.9 L/100 km.
The average mileage per full tank is 348 km from the Ativa’s minuscule 36-litre fuel tank.
Our Ativa is filled with RON95 at RM2.05 per litre and we’ve spent a sum of RM 1,461.49 based on the receipt total.
An observation is that when we drove the Ativa in stop-go city traffic, the fuel consumption soared to 8 – 9 L/100 km. Only on smooth highway journeys at a constant speed, the fuel consumption dipped below 7 L/100 km.
One thing to note is that the onboard computer reading on the Ativa was very accurate at 13.2 km vs. the actual fuel consumption reading of 13.49 km. A mere 2% difference.
The highest fuel consumption we recorded was 9.9 L/100 km where did a drag race with our friends at AutoBuzz.my. The lowest fuel consumption was 5.8 L/100 km where our colleague Faisal took the Ativa on a KL-JB trip for personal matters.
To this date, we fail to achieve Perodua’s claimed figures of 18.9 km/L or 5.29 L/100 km.
From our experience so far, we can conclude that the Ativa is not very efficient in stop-go traffic and the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo works best cruising at 80 – 110 km/h.
There you have it folks, the real-world fuel consumption of our Perodua Ativa. Not as efficient as we hoped it to be. We may see the fuel consumption drop even further following our first oil change and we will report back in the near future.
