After a 6-year hiatus, the KL International Motor Show is back—now rebranded as the KL International Mobility Show. The event will take place at MITEC from 5 to 11 December.
Four brands—Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and Kia—are confirmed to launch new models, while MG will debut multiple models. Additionally, two more brands, Perodua and GWM, are confirmed to preview upcoming vehicles set for launch in Malaysia soon.
The most anticipated launch for Nissan is the Kicks e-Power, a 900 km-range hybrid that mimics an electric vehicle. Unlike conventional hybrids, the Kicks does not require plugged-in charging. Instead, the 1.2-litre petrol engine functions as an onboard generator, providing electricity for the drivetrain. This innovative approach solves the biggest limitation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by removing dependence on charging infrastructure.
Bookings are already opened, with an estimated starting price of under RM 130,000.
2025 Toyota Corolla Cross
Toyota dealers have exhausted their inventory of the current Corolla Cross, and the facelifted model is expected to arrive with an increased entry price. The base 1.8G variant will be dropped, leaving the refreshed lineup with upgraded features, including:
A new instrument panel.
An updated infotainment system.
An electric parking brake with Auto Hold.
Improved adaptive cruise control (Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, DRCC), now with Stop&Go.
Additionally, the GR Sport styling package, previously exclusive to the 1.8-litre petrol variant, will now be available on the core 1.8 Hybrid variant as well.
2025 Toyota Camry
The new Toyota Camry, a heavily revamped version of the outgoing model, will introduce bold, post-modern styling, aiming to polarize opinions. A new hybrid variant will join the lineup, with prices expected to exceed RM 250,000 (compared to the outgoing model’s price of RM 219,800). The Camry will continue to feature Toyota’s proven reliable drivetrains.
Mazda CX-60
Bermaz Motor will unveil the Mazda CX-60, positioned as Mazda’s answer to the Toyota Harrier. Key questions for this launch include whether Malaysia will receive the rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive variant and if the model will feature the 3.3-litre inline 6-cylinder engine or the 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage will target customers seeking a stylish family SUV within the RM 150,000 price range. It offers a credible alternative to the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 for buyers hesitant to invest in the growing pool of Chinese SUVs with unproven history in Malaysia.
MG Cyberster
Bookings are already opened for Malaysia’s first BEV convertible, with an estimated starting price of below RM 350,000. SAIC Malaysia, the custodians of the MG brand, will announce the confirmed price and specifications for the MG Cyberster.
Key features for the Cyberster include:
Power: 503 PS and 725 Nm of torque.
Battery: 77 kWh, delivering a WLTP range of 446 km.
Performance: 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.
Charging: 150 kW DC fast charging (10-80% in 38 minutes)
MG HS
SAIC Malaysia has already confirmed that the MG HS, a rival to the Proton X70, will be priced from RM 98,800. The model will be making its first public debut at KLIMS.
The five-seater C-segment SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed twin-clutch transmission, it delivers 162 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Safety features include 6 airbags and MG Pilot ADAS, with Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, and Lane Assist.
Previews at KLIMS 2024
GWM's Wey 80
GWM will be previewing a new model in Malaysia. The company has not dropped any hints for KLIMS but at the on-going Thailand International Motor Expo, its Wey brand debuted for the first time, suggesting that the brand will also make its local debut next month.
The Wey 80 is a plug-in hybrid rival to the Toyota Alphard. It’s powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, paired to a 34 kWh battery.
GWM Malaysia already has three brands in its portfolio - Haval, Tank, and Ora.
Perodua Emo-2 Concept
Perodua will showcase a product unveiling, likely the next iteration of its emo concept for the next-generation Perodua Myvi BEV. The previous emo-1 concept, displayed in May at the Malaysia Auto Show, focused solely on the powertrain, boasting:
Range: 400 km
Weight: 1,400 kg
Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in under 9 seconds
Top Speed: 150 km/h
Battery: 57.6 kWh
Charging: 11 kW AC, 50 kW DC
The emo-2 concept is expected to reveal the styling direction for the next-generation electric Myvi, as the emo-1 was based on the current Myvi’s body.
Perodua Nexis?
We are also half-expecting that Perodua may also preview its rumored Nexis SUV, positioned above the Ativa to rival the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V. The extremely market research-heavy Perodua may even invite visitors to participate in surveys for feedback on the new SUV.
Where is Proton?
KLIMS organizer Malaysian Automotive Association has confirmed that Proton will not be doing any launches or product unveilings at KLIMS, thus ruling out announcements on the e.Mas 7's price.
To recap, KLIMS will run from 5 to 11 December at MITEC, near Jalan Duta. To avoid traffic, visitors are encouraged to use the shuttle services from designated pick-up points:
