The Peugeot 3008 is the French company’s entry into the highly competitive C-segment SUV market.
It was previously imported from Peugeot’s plant in France, but Nasim has commenced locally assembly (CKD) at the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun.
Two variants of the Peugeot 3008 are available in Malaysia, 3008 Active THP and 3008 Allure THP, priced from RM 150,888 and RM 163,888, respectively.
Both variants use a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that does 167 PS and 240 Nm, sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Our pick of the range is the 3008 Allure THP, as this variant adds several ADAS features like Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Information System, and Blind Spot Monitor.
To stand out in the fiercely competitive C-segment SUV market, Peugeot has given the 3008 a host of unique touches.
For starters, the design of the Peugeot 3008 features elegant French flair that is refreshing in the sea of Japanese (and Chinese) marques. Couple that with SUV-esque design elements such as the integrated front and rear skid plates, roof rails, and fender flares, there’s no mistaking the Peugeot 3008 for anything else on the road.
Then there’s the i-Cockpit, which is Peugeot’s fancy name given to its interior that encompasses a compact steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and floating touchscreen infotainment screen. It takes awhile to get used to the instrument panel, which is mounted further out than most cars, and with a small steering wheel, you need to look over the steering wheel rather than through it to read the gauges.
Other highlights of the Peugeot 3008 include ambient lighting (Allure THP only), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Arkamys 3D sound staging, and powered seats up front.
The Peugeot 3008 Allure is also adds a panoramic sunroof.
But all these French flair comes at a price, as Peugeot isn’t exactly a name that is synonymous with reliability.
Interior practicality also falls behind rivals such as the Honda CR-V, as the Peugeot doesn’t offer nearly as many storage spaces as the Honda, nor is it as spacious inside.
