The just-launched Proton X90 has earned a five-star rating on the ASEAN NCAP crash test, with a cumulative score of 83.75.

Tested at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) lab in China, the X90 was evaluated per the new, stricter ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol, which places greater emphasis on ADAS features, including tests for autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and motorcyclist safety.

In terms of adult occupant protection, the X90 scored an impressive 30.20 out of 32 points. Protection is rated as 'good' all around, which is pretty good reassurance.

The X90's standard 6 airbags helped boost its score, while child occupant protection earned the car a maximum of 16 points for front impact and 8 points for side impact, totaling 45.37 points out of a possible 51.

The X90 performed well in tests for autonomous emergency braking (AEB), receiving a high score due to its ability to detect pedestrians. Blind spot detection also received satisfactory ratings.

The Proton X90 was launched earlier today. Four variants are available at the outset: RM 123,800 (1.5 Standard), RM 130,800 (1.5 Executive), RM 144,800 (1.5 Premium), and RM 152,800 (1.5 Flagship).
