After 53 years of being a reliable mode of transport for 77-year old Asada Shogo, this 1969 Toyota Corolla will soon retire to the Toyota City Museum.
The one-owner Toyota Corolla was purchased by Shogo-san back in 1969, who spent 2 full years’ salary on the car. The KE10 Corolla was also there with Shogo-san when he started dating, met his future wife Mitsuko, and even ferrying their baby daughter back from the hospital.
While the odometer in the KE10 Corolla seems to display a mileage of 63k km, the actual fact is that the KE10 Corolla’s odometer has reportedly rolled over 5 times, for an actual mileage of 563,000 kilometers.
To achieve such a mileage, Shogo-san made sure that he used original parts where possible, going as far as Thailand to source for parts like the fender mirrors. The tyres, on the other hand, were imported from Indonesia.
According to the video by NHK, the KE10 Corolla will be a fixture at the Toyota City Museum when it opens in 2024.
Started from the IT industry but somehow managed to find his way into the automotive industry. If heโs not gaming, heโs constantly tinkering with his daily/weekend car.
