The 2022 Volvo XC40 facelift has been revealed with sharper looks and updated infotainment system with Android Automotive OS.
Volvo has given the XC40 a new front bumper with more angular design motifs, and the signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights are still featured albeit in a triangular shape.
The fully-electric (EV) Recharge P8 variant gets a frameless grille plate to keep it visually in sync with the Volvo C40 Recharge, aligning two of Volvo’s current EV line-up.
Inside, changes are limited to the updated infotainment system that now runs on Android Automotive OS, which was already featured in the XC40 Recharge P8.
Additionally, there are leather-free upholstery options in the pure electric XC40 Recharge, as well as new exterior colours and rims.
Powertrain options are carried over from before; with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine on varying levels of outputs depending on variant, from 129 PS/245 Nm to 250 PS/350 Nm.
The 2.0-litre variants get an 8-speed automatic transmission and are mild-hybrid systems, while the 1.5-litre engine gets a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
There are also the plug-in hybrid Recharge variants with the 1.5-litre engine supplemented by an electric motor that does up to 262 PS/425 Nm, mated to a 7-speed DCT. The 10.7 kWh battery allows for an all-electric range of up to 44 km.
Meanwhile, the all-electric Recharge P8 gets dual motors on both axles, which makes it an all-wheel drive model. It makes a total output of 408 PS/660 Nm, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds. Driving range is up to 418 km on the WLTP cycle, courtesy of its 78 kWh battery.
For charging, the Volvo XC40 EV is capable of 11 kW AC charging (0-100% in 8 hours) and 150 kW DC fast charging (0-80% in 40 minutes).
Closer to home, the launch of the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 will be happening tomorrow (15-March 2022) as announced on Volvo Car Malaysia's social media channels.
