Last week, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) introduced the updated 2022 Volkswagen Passat R-Line in Malaysia. The locally-assembled (CKD in Pekan) Passat R-Line now retails for RM 212,939 (OTR without insurance, SST discounts applied).

Previously, the Passat R-Line was priced at RM 204,433, which marks a increase of RM 8.5k.

Visually, the 2022 Passat R-Line looks identical to the 2020 version, but now carries VW's new corporate logo. This makes it the second car to receive VW's new emblem, after the Arteon R-Line.

The biggest enhancement for this new Passat R-Line comes in the form of a 30 PS and 30 Nm performance bump up to 220 PS and 350 Nm now, matching the pre-facelift Passat Highline's output.

However, the 2.0-litre turbocharged unit is now paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (wet type), one less cog from the previous 7-speeder.

Like the previous Passat R-Line, ride and handling duties are handled by VW's Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Selection to further tailor driving preferences according to road conditions.

Inside, there is a couple of changes - a 12-speaker (including subwoofer), 700W Harman Kardon sound system and haptic controls for the A/C.

Other features in the interior include 30-colour ambient lighting, three-zone automatic climate control, 11.7-inch digital instrument display, aluminium pedals, and 14-way powered front seats with memory and massage function for the driver side.

In terms of infotainment system, there's a 9.2-inch touchscreen Discover Pro system with wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new and enhanced VW Passat R-Line comes in five colours. The three metallic colours are Scale Silver (new shade of silver, shown here), Aquamarine Blue, and Manganese Grey. Meanwhile, the two pearl-effect colours are Deep Black and Oryx White, at no additional cost. 

The Volkswagen Passat R-Line comes with three years free maintenance, five years unlimited mileage warranty, and five years roadside assistance.
