The Toyota Corolla has a new boss to fight now as American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has begun sales of the all-new 2021 Honda Civic (FE) over in the United States today.
However, it's just the sedan for now. The Civic Hatchback will make its world debut next week on 24-June 2021.
The Civic comes in four variants Stateside, and prices are as follows:
2022 Honda Civic price in USA
Variant
Prices
LX
USD 21,700
Sport
USD 23,100
EX
USD 24,700
Touring
USD 28,300
Although it starts off pricier than the outgoing Civic FC (as expected anyway), it's still quite competitively-priced against the US-spec Corolla, which ranges from USD 20,025 to USD 28,310.
Sure the base Civic LX might be marginally pricier, but they're slightly better equipped than the rolling-on-steelies base Corolla L.
Variants and equipment
This "most fun-to-drive Civic sedan" comes with the Honda Sensing suite of ADAS as a standard fitment, bundling Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) among other features.
Also standard are LED head- and taillights, electric parking brake (EPB), as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, with the range-topping Touring getting wireless versions of them.
Infotainment is handled by a 7-inch touchscreen on all but the Touring variant; that gets a 9-inch unit.
Speaking of entertainment, the base variant gets a standard 4-speaker setup, while the mid-range variants get 8 speakers.
The best is reserved for the most expensive then, as the range-topper gets a Bose 12-speaker surround sound system.
Other than those, variant-specific differences lie in wheel sizes (16- to 18-inches), exterior accents and interior upholstery, in addition to creature comforts like a power-adjustable driver's seat and moonroof.
Powertrains of the Honda Civic
The largest Civic yet comes with two different powertrain options:
2022 Honda Civic powertrains
Powertrain
1.5-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder
180 PS / 240 Nm
CVT
(EX and Touring)
2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder
158 PS / 187 Nm
CVT
(LX and Sport)
The bigger engine is ported over from its predecessor, while the 1.5-litre mill sees a 4 PS and 20 Nm increase from the outgoing model.
Honda Civic Malaysian availability
So there you have it, a quick round-up of the all-new Honda Civic in its first market.
News of sales in other markets should start trickling in slowly, and we already know that Singapore could be the first to launch it in our part of the world.
WapCar's comment: Sure, it wears a safe look (some of you call it 'uncle' design), but that's what the Civic is about - mass-market appeal. With suitable equipment and priced right, it could be a winner, and we're eager to take it for a spin once it's in Malaysia.
