The 2024 Mercedes-AMG G-Class facelift has been launched in Malaysia. Ours comes in the sole G63 AMG variant, priced from RM 1,948,888.

Exterior

On the exterior, the facelift brings subtle yet impactful updates, including redesigned front and rear bumpers and a new rear camera position above the license plate holder, enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the G63.

Ours comes with the AMG Night Package that enhances the vehicle’s sporty, striking appearance with black or dark chrome design elements, including the radiator grille, side mirror housings, and simulated front underguard, complemented by bumper inserts in Obsidian Black.

It also features an AMG-specific exhaust system with two twin tailpipes, along with its signature spare wheel mounted on the rear door.

Distinctive details like red-painted AMG brake calipers, perforated brake discs, and 22-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels complete the look. Brand highlights include the AMG crest, now displayed on the bonnet and projected from the exterior mirrors for the first time, as well as an AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome with black accents.

The Adaptive Multibeam LED headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus enhance visibility, adjusting their 84 high-performance LEDs to suit traffic conditions and illuminate the road as needed. The taillights also feature LED technology.

Interior

Inside, the cabin remains familiar but benefits from thoughtful enhancements. A redesigned off-road control center allows quick access to the Offroad Cockpit and the three mechanical differential locks. The new steering wheel, equipped with capacitive buttons and a touchpad, updates the G-Class with a more modern feel by eliminating the traditional IWC analog clock.

Now standard on is the MBUX infotainment system, featuring dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Burmester 3D audio is part of the deal too, would be owners…

For the Malaysian market, the Superior Line interior transforms the cabin into an opulent lounge, featuring a sliding sunroof, a nappa leather-wrapped instrument panel, diamond-patterned accents, and active multi-contour seats equipped with the Energising Package Plus, offering massage functions and climate control.

Luxurious touches like AMG carbon-fiber trim and nappa leather upholstery further elevate the interior ambiance, as well as a smattering of AMG logos around.

Performance

Under the hood, the lineup now features fully electrified engines. The AMG G63 continues with the AMG M177 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine. Both engines are equipped with integrated starter-generators (ISG) and 48-volt systems, providing an additional 20 PS and 200 Nm of torque when needed.

In total, the G63 produces an impressive 585 PS and 850 Nm, paired with the AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed automatic transmission.

For handling, the G63 offers AMG Active Ride Control with hydraulic roll stabilisation.

The AMG G63 is also equipped with features such as Parking Assist (Parktronic), Active Lane Keeping Assist, Guard 360° vehicle protection, Active Distance Assist (Distronic), parking package with 360° camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
