If you're shopping for a Proton X70, you may want to fast track your purchase, as a recent report from Chinese portal Automachi claimed that Proton will be unveiling a minor change (MC) Proton X70 Facelift in August.
As part of this update, the source mentioned that Proton will be replacing the turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine with a downsized turbocharged 1.5-litre TGDI three-cylinder unit – the very same unit that powers the Proton X50 Flagship. Lesser variants of the Proton X50 receive a turbocharged 1.5 MPI engine (150 PS / 226 Nm).
The turbocharged 1.8-litre does 184 PS and 300 Nm, 7 PS and 45 Nm more than the Proton X50's 1.5-litre TGDI unit.

This powertrain combination (1.5 turbo + 7-speed DCT) is identical to export versions of the model, as the Proton X70 that is sold in Pakistan and Bangladesh gets this powertrain combination. The upcoming Thailand-spec Proton X70 is also expected to get this 1.5-litre engine.
After all, it does make sense for Proton to fit the 1.5-litre engine into the Malaysian-spec X70, as it streamlines production at their Tanjung Malim facility. Thus far, only the Malaysian-spec X70 is fitted with the larger 1.8-litre engine.
