BMW Thailand has launched the seventh-generation (G30) BMW 5 Series facelift (LCI). Assembled in Thailand, the G30 BMW 5 Series facelift is offered in 3 variants: 520d M Sport, 530e Elite, and 530e M Sport. Here are the prices for each variant:

• BMW 520d M sport - 3.539m baht (RM 478k)
• BMW 530e Elite - 2.999m baht (RM 405k)
• BMW 530e M Sport - 3.739m baht (RM 505k)

Powertrains

Starting with the BMW 520d M Sport, power comes from a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that delivers an output of 190 PS at 4,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,750 - 2,500 rpm.

As for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 530e, it gets a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that provides 184 PS at 5,000 - 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm at 1,350 - 4,000 rpm. Combined with the electric motor, maximum output jumps to 292 PS/420 Nm - courtesy of the XtraBoost function that provides a temporary boost of 40 PS.

The all-electric driving range for the 530e variants, enabled from the 12.0-kWh high-voltage battery (9.2-kWh in the pre-facelift model) under the rear seat bench, is rated at 52 km according to the NEDC test cycle.

0-100 km/h in the 520d takes 7.5 seconds while the 530e does it in 5.9 seconds. Both powertrains feature an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

Exterior

The 520d M Sport and 530e Elite wear 18-inch wheels albeit with different designs and setup – the 520d M Sport is staggered with wider rear tyres (245/45 R18 front, 275/40 R18 rear) while the 530e Elite has a squared setup (245/40 R18 all-round).

The BMW 530e M Sport rides on 19-inch wheels with a staggered setup as well, with 245/40 R19 rubbers at the front and 275/35 R19 at the rear.

Exclusive to the BMW 530e M Sport are Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering), Adaptive Suspension, M Sport brakes, and sunroof.

Standard equipment across the range include Adaptive LED Headlights with High-beam Assistant, Soft-close Function for Doors, Comfort Access System, and Ambient Lighting.

With Comfort Access, the BMW Digital Key turns the Apple iPhone into a car key – enabling up to 5 users of the new BMW 5 Series sedan to unlock and lock the vehicle via Near Field Communication (NFC).

Interior

Inside, M Sport variants come with instrument panel in Sensatec, which is BMW’s synthetic leather, Harman Kardon surround sound system, wireless charging, gesture control, and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with 12.3-inch display running on BMW Operating System 7.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems

Safety wise, the 530e Elite omits any form of ADAS while the 520d M Sport and 530e M Sport get Driving Assistant package that includes Front Collision Warning with Brake Intervention (AEB) and Lane Departure Warning.

On top of those, the 530e M Sport features Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function and Parking Assistant Plus, which adds Surround View Camera.
