    2021 Honda Odyssey Overview

    Honda Odyssey Overview

The Honda Odyssey is Honda’s premium mid-size 7-seater MPV. Fully imported from Japan as a CBU unit, the now fifth generation Honda Odyssey was first unveiled in Malaysia back in 2013. The most recent facelift was introduced in 2018 featuring a number of styling and equipment updates.

The exterior changes to the facelifted Honda Odyssey are fairly subtle and most of the major changes occurs underneath. Most notably, the updated MPV now comes with Honda’s high tech safety feature in the form of Honda Sensing.

The 2.4 L EXV is the sole variant on offer and is priced from RM 249,393 (OTR without insurance). The Honda Odyssey offers a unique proposition that sits in between the more affordable MPVs like the Nissan Serena S Hybrid and the more luxurious Toyota Vellfire full-size MPV. Other alternative includes the likes of the Kia Grand Carnival, or 7-seater SUVs like the Mazda CX-8 and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace if you can make do without the sliding doors.

    Must Read

    • Power sliding doors
    • Strong 2.4-litre engine
    • Honda Sensing is fitted as standard
    • Practicality- As a 7-seater MPV, it excels in ferrying passenger in total comfort and style. Second row captain seat is spacious while the third-row seats are retractable when not in used, freeing up more cargo space or simply allowing the second-row seats to slide all the way back for maximum comfort.
    • Safety features- Now with Honda Sensing, the Honda Odyssey is now equipped with a host of high-tech safety features, assisting driver during the drive while protecting its occupants onboard.
    • Interior Quality- Interior material quality is above average with the extensive use of soft touch material and premium quality leather upholstery. The panels are well put together and the fit and finish is on par with some of the more expensive cars.
    • No Low Speed Follow, due to mechanical foot-operated parking brake
    • No Android Auto or Apple CarPlay
    • Lacks additional USB charging ports
    • Connectivity- Modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent. Standard feature available on the 7-inch touch screen is fundamental and the screen resolution leaves much to be desired. It simply does not reflect the Honda Odyssey high price point.
    • Foot operated parking brake- While it frees up ample of space on the central tunnel without the conventional hand brake, the foot-operated system is so old-school and there is simply no elegant way of engaging a foot operated parking brake.
    • Interior Design- Compared to the rest of Honda’s line up today, the interior design is starting to show its age
