Kia Malaysia, now represented by Bermaz Auto Berhad, has plans to introduce the all-new 2022 Kia Sportage in Malaysia next year, as seen in a report by the Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) shared to investors.

Details are unclear at the moment, though the report did highlight that the 2022 Kia Sportage will have a combination local-assembled (CKD) and fully-imported (CBU) units. Plus, it also states that the introduction of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant in Malaysia is in the midst of discussion.

Globally, two engines are available in the all-new Sportage – a turbocharged 1.6-litre TGDI petrol unit (180 PS/265 Nm) and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine (186 PS/417 Nm). Both engines are paired to a 7-speed DCT and an 8-speed automatic respectively.
Kia has also confirmed the hybrid and PHEV variants of the Sportage, but specifics have yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Bermaz Auto also plans to locally-assemble (CKD) two other Kia models in Malaysia - the Kia Carnival and Kia Seltos. Like the all-new Sportage, these won't happen until at least 2022.

Kia Malaysia’s manufacturing facility is in Inokom manufacturing campus in Kulim, Kedah, but in a separate facility from Mazda's.
